Freelance writing for money and losing your voice in the transition is something that I can bet many writers think about. You ask..........How do you manage to diversify your portfolio without losing the identify you want to maintain when writing? How do you ensure that people are always aware of your voice even if someone wants you to write from a specific perspective? Is freelancing even going to work for someone like you?
I never had a specific group of individuals I wanted to target when this all begin. My goal was just to capture the truth according to me. As things visually progress, I find myself posting many pictures of African American women, children and couples. I felt myself doing it and it just felt normal. But as I was listening to a podcast today I began to identify some of the reasons why I am likely doing it.
I can understand how as a writer this is important. You want to know who you are speaking to. Especially if you intend to monetize. The people you are targeting determine the market that you are hitting…………….brands care a great deal about it and it’s probably how they are choosing you to represent them if they ask you to write up something or promote for them.
Picture it........Saturday morning in the nail shop. Looking around at all the women (and men) who are up early for their mani/pedi session. Bright lights and conversations. All the while my attitude is on overdrive from lack of sleep and coffee. I'd say the perfect breeding ground for creative thought! Lol
Whenever you start blogging you are typically starting for a reason. It can be an outlet that you use to let go of things or something you are doing to help someone. It can even be to find a side job that you love to do and connect with other people. Whatever that reason is for you is cool but I know for me, it all started as an outlet because I love to write.........now it's more.
Content is a huge factor in your success or failure as a Blogger. Topics you pick to write about can make or break the growth of your following. I’ve been kind of struggling with where to go as I continue to grow and start becoming a bit more of an influence….. more recognizable throughout the blogging community.
